Hydrangeas showy flowers are often extended in a ring, or to the exterior of the small flowers. In most species the flowers are white, but in some species they can be blue, red, pink, light purple, or dark purple. Most hydrangeas thrive in rich, porous, somewhat moist soils. Add compost to enrich poor soil. They prefer full sun in the morning, with some afternoon shade; however, many will grow and bloom in partial shade.
